Come See What We're About!

About Us

Baptist churches are independent, autonomous congregations.  We voluntarily cooperate in missions and ministry with the following:

Union Baptist Association:  This is a group of churches located mainly in Harris County and the Houston metropolitan area which support local missions ministries, mainly involving starting and supporting new churches.  There are many churches in the Houston area that provide services in different languages and are doing work among the many ethnic groups that live in our area.  UBA also operates a counseling center and the Seaman's Center, a ministry to sailors on ships that dock in the Port of Houston.

Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBCT):  Garden Oaks recently became the 2,200th church affiliated with the SBTC, voting to join as a uniquely affiliated congregation in October of 2009.  The SBTC is a group of Baptist churches in Texas who cooperate with each other for missions and ministry in things like church planting and Christian education.

The Southern Baptist Convention:  More than 45,000 churches across the United States are in full cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention.  The SBC's primary responsibilities are the operation of two mission boards, the North American Mission Board with almost 4,000 missionaries in the US, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, and the International Mission Board, with more than 5,000 missionaries serving in over 200 foreign countries.  The SBC also operates six seminaries for training pastors, church staff and missionary personnel for service in cooperating Southern Baptist churches.  Lifeway Christian Publishers, in Nashville, Tennessee, is the publishing arm of the SBC, providing Bible study curriculum for churches, and operates a chain of Lifeway Christian Stores across the country.  The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission in Washington, D.C. lobbies for the interests of Southern Baptists in the nation's capital.

Our contributions to each of these entities are voluntary, and determined by the congregation.  We are not governed by these organizations, we voluntarily choose to cooperate with them for the sake of an efficient and effective ministry.
